Overview

Join our team as a Web Content Specialist and support a federal transportation research center by keeping mission-critical websites accurate, accessible, and current. You will manage content across web platforms and databases, coordinate reviews and approvals, and ensure every page meets federal accessibility standards.

Work Schedule and Location:


Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET (core hours fall within a 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. ET window), with occasional in-person travel to Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, McLean, VA (or Dept of Transportation HQ in Washington, DC), for meetings and coordination as needed. Some additional travel within the continental U.S. may be required for conferences and events. 



Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and post web content, articles, and database records using a content management system
  • Coordinate content review and approval with program points-of-contact and, when needed, outside stakeholders
  • Optimize content for search (SEO) and verify Section 508 accessibility compliance
  • Support quarterly content certification processes to keep information current
  • Monitor pages for broken links, formatting issues, and readability/navigation improvements
  • Edit and prepare web-ready graphics (crop, resize, recolor) as needed
  • Deliver training and documentation on web content processes to internal staff

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline
  • 5–7 years of web content management experience, with at least 3 years within the last 5 years
  • Demonstrated CMS experience and working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements

Desired: 

  • Highway/surface transportation program experience
  • Experience training others on content management workflows
  • Familiarity with basic database content coordination (no programming required)
