Public Relations Manager (Part Time)

Overview

FWI is building a team to support Puerto Rico Department of Housing (PRDOH) Communication Services program for the Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) and Community Development Block Grant for Mitigation (CDBG-MIT). The Public Relations Manager will establish and maintain relationships with clients, government officials, and media representatives, while managing special events and coordinating public relations campaigns to maintain a positive public perception.

Work Schedule and Location:


Hybrid: This part-time hybrid position will work Monday through Friday, 26 hours per week, with some onsite work in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Responsibilities

 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, government officials, media representatives, and use those relationships to develop new communications opportunities
  • Determine needs, develop and execute PR strategies and opportunities specific to client needs
  • Manage and coordinate special events and activities that clients support to gain public attention through media without advertising directly
  • Keep a positive perception of the client in the public eye by responsibly handling press releases, giving advertising input, and setting up interviews
  • Gather, validate, and analyze preliminary information via online research, social media platforms, networking, and other sources to seek optimization opportunities that align with client goals
  • Prepare and present performance reports to clients with storytelling focus and strong emphasis on data visualization
  • Identify audiences, determine the best way to communicate publicity information to them, and develop and implement communication plans
  • Research industry-related topics, identify gaps in client content, write original copy for media outreach and social platforms, prepare and publish articles that promote client needs
  • Edit and fact-check content generated by other departments
  • Build and manage plans to identify opportunities and strategies to meet and exceed client goals
  • Work with leadership and support teams to build and execute client projects and collaborate with marketing and editorial departments
  • Evaluate advertising and promotion programs compatible with public relations efforts
  • Oversight of operational performance ensuring all objectives and schedules are met or exceeded within agreed budgets
  • Responsible for managing the work of team members and performing administrative functions
  • Assist with client portfolios and monitor ongoing activities
  • Manage, review progress, and deliver client projects
  • Conduct frequent meetings with clients and provide feedback on project status
  • Create and oversee reports on PR activities and content performance; monitor metrics to ensure relevance and currency
  • Keep abreast of changes and developments in marketing and communications to maintain deep understanding of client needs and maximize resource use
  • Develop reports and data-driven multimedia strategies; track client activities and projects in real-time to ensure assistance and improvement in execution
  • Responsible for conducting final review of client requests to ensure content is error-free and reflects client needs before delivery
  • Coordinate resources to comply with clients' time-sensitive requests within established timeframes
 

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism, Mass Communications, Marketing, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, and communications
  • Proven track record designing and executing successful public relations campaigns with measurable results
  • Strong industry network and contacts with senior journalists and members of the press
  • Experience in both broadcast and print media with exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Solid experience with social media management and event planning
  • Agency experience preferred with ability to work both individually and collaboratively
  • Very results-driven approach with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of industry trends, marketing strategies, and public relations best practices
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, negotiation, leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to evaluate advertising and promotion programs compatible with public relations efforts
  • Experience managing team members and performing administrative functions
  • Digital influencer experience and extensive media contacts preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, empathy, presentation skills, highly organized with keen ability for problem-solving and negotiation
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills in both Spanish and English (bilingual required)
