Overview

FWI is building a team to provide comprehensive information resource and instructional services supporting the Department of State's National Foreign Affairs Training Center, which serves approximately 50,000 students and researchers annually with resources focused on international relations, area studies, and diplomatic training. As a Digital Archivist, you will manage digital materials and archives while ensuring the accessibility and preservation of resources that directly support America's diplomatic training mission.

Work Schedule and Location:


On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday-Thursday 7:30 AM - 5:45 PM, Friday 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities

 

  • Create metadata records and policies for digital material creation, storage, preservation, and access
  • Ensure accessibility of NFATC Information Center digital resources and archives
  • Design and manage digital collections with appropriate metadata schema and controlled vocabularies
  • Create policies for managing born-digital materials for ingest, storage, and preservation
  • Compile finding aids and create collection-level records
  • Provide reference services for all collections
  • Conduct collection development through contributor/donor contacts and field surveys
  • Promote collections through presentations, talks, and interviews
  • Coordinate and promote exhibits and displays for special events
  • Contribute to multicultural work environment
  • Requires Secret level security clearance

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Sciences required (M.L.I.S. from ALA-accredited program preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years experience processing digital archival collections
  • Experience in creating metadata descriptions, digitization, and born-digital materials care
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with cataloging, computer applications, and metadata establishment
  • Ability to develop cultural competency and engage across diverse backgrounds
  • Requires Secret level security clearance

Desired:

  • Experience in outreach activities preferred
  • Digital Archives Specialist Certificate from Society of American Archivists preferred
