Overview

FWI is building a team to provide comprehensive information resource and instructional services supporting the Department of State's National Foreign Affairs Training Center, which serves approximately 50,000 students and researchers annually with resources focused on international relations, area studies, and diplomatic training. As a Librarian, you will deliver essential reference and research services while maintaining collections that directly support America's diplomatic training mission.

Work Schedule and Location:


On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday-Thursday 7:30 AM - 5:45 PM, Friday 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct reference, research, evaluative and instructional services to clientele
  • Perform circulation activities including patron registration and material checkout
  • Maintain current print and media collection and serials
  • Evaluate and recommend external materials and resources
  • Maintain knowledge of copyright requirements and provide guidance to patrons
  • Open and close Information Center as required
  • Brief students and staff on Information Center and Bunche Library resources
  • Maintain web presence supporting Information Center resources

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Master's in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) from ALA-accredited program required (Bachelor's in Library Science acceptable but MLIS preferred)
  • Minimum 4 years experience in information centers or library programs
  • Knowledge of information sciences, contemporary library services, and information technology
  • Customer service orientation with strong time management and decision-making skills
  • Specialized skill in using databases and organizing information resources
  • Knowledge of current library theory including new technologies and delivery platforms
  • In-depth knowledge in 2+ functional library areas (digital libraries, collection development, cataloging, reference)
  • Knowledge of copyright laws and restrictions
  • Knowledge of Foreign Affairs, International Relations, world geography and history
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Cultural sensitivity with proven multicultural environment experience
  • Requires Secret level security clearance
