Overview

FWI is building a team to provide comprehensive information resource and instructional services supporting the Department of State's National Foreign Affairs Training Center, which serves approximately 50,000 students and researchers annually with resources focused on international relations, area studies, and diplomatic training. As a Senior Librarian, you will coordinate the Information Center's operations and lead the development of collections and services that directly support America's diplomatic training mission.

Work Schedule and Location:


On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday-Thursday 7:30 AM - 5:45 PM, Friday 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate customer service functions of the NFATC Information Center
  • Provide input to Government management on short and long-range planning
  • Establish collection needs based on instructional goals of each Directorate
  • Facilitate comprehensive reference, research, evaluative and instructional services
  • Develop and maintain central reference point for eBooks and e-Publications
  • Conduct collection evaluation and recommend materials for acquisition or de-accession
  • Maintain current knowledge of copyright requirements and restrictions
  • Open and close the Information Center as required
  • Brief students and staff on Information Center and Bunche Library resources
  • Work collaboratively to develop continuously updated web presence
  • Train NFATC instructional staff on circulation software use

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Master's in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) from ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience in information centers or library programs
  • Knowledge of current information technologies and electronic environment operations
  • Advanced customer service, time management, coordination, and critical thinking skills
  • Specialized skill in using databases, evaluating information resources, and organizing materials
  • Knowledge of current library theory with emphasis on electronic resources and new technologies
  • In-depth knowledge in 2+ functional areas (digital libraries, collection development, cataloging, reference)
  • Knowledge of copyright laws and restrictions
  • Experience coordinating substantial library or information center programs
  • Knowledge of Foreign Affairs, International Relations, world geography and history
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including training and public speaking
  • Cultural sensitivity with proven multicultural environment experience
  • Requires Secret level security clearance
