Overview

FWI is building a team to support the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in advancing the AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) and its alignment with international standards and U.S. policy requirements. As a Project Leader you will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of AI governance and standards at the intersection of federal policy and international collaboration. Work Schedule and Location:


On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm at the NIST Gaithersburg, MD campus.

 

Travel Requirements: Up to 2 international or domestic trips annually for workshops, conferences, and standards meetings (approximately one week each)

Responsibilities

  • Lead all contract deliverables including work plans, monthly status reports, and final reports to ensure timely completion of project milestones
  • Monitor and participate in international AI standards activities (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 and ANSI/INCITS-AI) to promote NIST AI RMF adoption
  • Attend standards meetings and generate comprehensive reports briefing NIST leadership on activities and opportunities
  • Conduct detailed crosswalk analyses between NIST AI RMF and other AI frameworks, standards, and regulations (both U.S. and international)
  • Identify and prioritize key documents for alignment analysis and develop policy harmonization recommendations
  • Create and maintain catalogs of SC42 and INCITS-AI work items relevant to NIST interests
  • Conduct stakeholder research and interviews to understand AI standards usage and implementation challenges
  • Build and maintain relationships with C-suite executives and senior stakeholders in the AI community
  • Stay current on trends in Trustworthy and Responsible AI, tracking regulatory developments across sectors
  • Coordinate technical contributions to NIST responses for standards input requests
  • Communicate complex technical and policy matters to diverse audiences, from technical experts to senior executives
  • Support publication of approved materials to the NIST Trustworthy and Responsible AI Resource Center

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate degree in science, engineering, social science, law, or technical communications

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years preparing and delivering communication materials to private industry stakeholders
  • At least 5 years communicating with C-suite executives and stakeholders specifically in Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Demonstrated experience with technology policy matters related to trustworthy and responsible artificial intelligence
  • Proven experience developing and presenting technology policy matters relating to artificial intelligence
  • Experience with international standards development processes preferred
  • Familiarity with risk management frameworks and governance structures
  • Ability to obtain NIST identification and work in government facilities
