Overview

FWI is building a team to support the operations of the DHS Science & Technology Directorate's Compliance Assurance Program Office Human Research Protections Group (HRPG) to ensure departmental compliance with federal regulations, standards, and guidelines for the protection of human research subjects. As a HRPG Team Lead you will provide technical expertise and programmatic leadership to conduct regulatory oversight, compliance monitoring, and educational support for all DHS-sponsored human subjects research activities.

Work Schedule and Location:


On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm at the DHS office in Washington, DC with a possible hybrid option.

Responsibilities

The HRPG Team Lead will provide comprehensive support to ensure DHS compliance with federal regulations, standards, and guidelines for the protection of human research subjects.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as alternate/deputy Program Manager during any absence of the Senior Manager Group 1/Program Manager
  • Supporting the development and revision of DHS directives, instructions, procedures, and guidance for research compliance
  • Conducting systematic reviews of DHS-sponsored activities for compliance with Federal laws and regulations
  • Planning and executing human subjects research post-approval compliance activities including audits and site visits
  • Providing guidance to DHS Components and DHS-sponsored entities on human research protections compliance
  • Developing and maintaining compliance review databases and tracking systems
  • Supporting training and outreach events on human research protections
  • Maintaining awareness of emerging technologies and best practices in human research protections

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Master's Arts/Science Degree
  • Extensive and demonstrated human research protections experience
  • Must be eligible to take the Certified IRB Professional (CIP) exam
  • Experience applying the Common Rule and other regulations relevant to the protection of human subjects in research
  • Experience applying DHS and other Federal regulations, regulatory compliance principles, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and clinical trials standards as well as research standards for all aspects of human subject's research
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HRPP/IRB/REC administration and management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various types of research portfolio oversight and management methods and systems
  • Ability to analyze extremely complex problems and recommend, monitor, and execute best practice solutions to executive level management
  • Experience with or ability to assist in the development of a regulatory framework based upon Federal, state, local and other laws, and guidelines
  • Ability to meet with and present to senior officials
