Overview

FWI is building a team to conduct research on three-dimensional (3D)-printable biofuel cells for the Naval Postgraduate School Physics Department. As a Research Assistant for Experimental Scaleup of 3D-Printed Microfluidic Biofuel Cells, you will design, fabricate, test, and optimize 3D-printed biofuel cell chips and arrays while conducting data analysis and documenting findings through scientific reports and papers.

 

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) provides relevant and unique advanced education and research programs to increase the combat effectiveness of commissioned officers of the Naval Service to enhance the security of the United States. Work Schedule and Location:


On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm at the Advanced Warfighter Lab at Spanagal Hall, NPS (Monterey, California).

Responsibilities

 

  • Design 3D-printed biofuel cell chips and arrays
  • Fabricate 3D-printed biofuel cell chips and arrays
  • Conduct experimental testing of 3D-printed biofuel cell chips and arrays
  • Perform optimizations of 3D-printed biofuel cell chips and arrays
  • Analyze experimental data
  • Document research findings and experimental results
  • Write scientific reports based on experimental results
  • Write scientific papers based on experimental results
  • Complete tasks of experimental data acquisition
  • Support the Office of Naval Research (ONR) biofuel cells project

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in physics, applied physics, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering
  • At least one year of experience in:
    • Experimental research in a STEM field
    • Design and 3D printing of microfluidic devices
    • Laboratory work with microfluidic devices
    • Biofuel cells research
    • Computer-assisted design (CAD) software, preferably SOLIDWORKS
    • Designing research within projects
    • Writing scientific reports and papers
