Overview

FedWriters is seeking an Outreach Manager to support the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) operations at NIST. As the Outreach Manager, you will lead communication and outreach strategies for this large-scale program that represents a significant portion of the agency's annual award actions. You will develop and implement comprehensive outreach campaigns, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure program visibility while maintaining exceptional communication standards. Your role will be crucial in engaging with the diverse community of grant recipients, academic institutions, and other stakeholders that participate in the GRFP.

Work Schedule and Location:

Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive outreach strategies for the Graduate Research Fellowship Program
  • Create and manage communication campaigns to promote program awareness and participation
  • Coordinate with large numbers of public stakeholders, including grant recipients and association members
  • Ensure all outreach products and deliverables meet relevant accessibility standards
  • Develop and maintain outreach materials, including digital content, presentations, and publications
  • Plan and execute virtual and in-person events to engage with program stakeholders
  • Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, scientific organizations, and community partners
  • Respond to NSF inquiries and requests within the same business day
  • Work collaboratively with NSF program directors, staff, and IT support on an ongoing basis
  • Communicate effectively with academic individuals such as science faculty and students
  • Track and report on outreach metrics and program impact
  • Identify and implement innovative approaches to reach underrepresented communities
  • Additional roles and responsibilities shall be determined by the Contractor

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in outreach, communications, or public relations
  • Experience dealing with large numbers of the public, such as grant recipients or association members
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure all products and deliverables meet relevant accessibility standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic communication plans
  • Proven track record of providing exceptional customer service
  • Ability to communicate effectively with academic individuals including science faculty and students
  • Experience coordinating with government agency staff and responding promptly to requests
  • Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements for communication materials

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field
  • Experience with outreach for federal programs or scientific initiatives
  • Background in academic or scientific community engagement
  • Experience with digital marketing and social media management
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices in outreach
  • Experience managing outreach teams or coordinating large-scale events
  • Demonstrated success in reaching diverse and underrepresented communities
