You'll lead efforts to evaluate, redesign, and rewrite vital notices and letters, ensuring clearer, more effective communication with millions of Americans. This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain invaluable experience while directly enhancing the IRS's service to the United States and its citizens.

 

This is a remote position that will not require the employee to relocate. Monday - Friday, normal business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Rewriting and editing IRS notices and letters to make them more oriented around human-centered design principles, more clear and concise, easier to read, more compliant with Federal Plain Language guidelines, more inclusive of behavioral insight principles, and more reflective of stakeholder feedback
  • Coordinating with the government to have edits and changes approved
  • Editing test, focus group, and survey materials
  • Helping to prepare correspondence to be sent to the Office of Management and Budget and other government approval authorities
  • Helping to develop notice and letter prototypes
  • Helping to develop presentations that will be given to the Correspondence Leadership Council and other stakeholders
  • Helping to write and edit reports on the results of tests, focus groups, and surveys
  • Helping to write and edit an IRS Correspondence Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) document
  • Helping to write and edit a guide that informs the continuing improvement of IRS correspondence
  • Recommending improvements to IRS correspondence
  • Ensuring compliance with the appropriate style guides

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or a similar field of study
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • The ability to apply Federal Plain Language guidelines and style guides to written materials
  • Highly developed communication, coordination, teamwork, and customer service skills
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar federal civilian or contractor position is desired
